Mar 31, 2016 · In a culture of thinking, students recognize that collective and individual thinking is valued, visible and actively promoted as part of the regular day-to-day experience of all group members. This type of culture can exist in any place where learning is part of the experience including school, after school programming or museum programs. Visible learning is greatly dependent upon the visible teaching strategies i.e. actions and attitude of the teacher. To become a visible teacher, a teacher must be active, transparent, engaging and passionate in their own learning and teaching the students. Enhanced role for teachers involves teaching in the most visible and deliberate ways. PZ researchers designed thinking routines to deepen students’ thinking and to help make that thinking “visible.” Thinking routines help to reveal students’ thinking to the teacher and also help students themselves to notice and name particular “thinking moves,” making those moves more available and useful to them in other contexts.
